end of blog

it’s been an infuriating week of reversals, failures and setbacks.

it’s really hard to be a digital photographer with out a computer. my cards are full and i don’t have anyplace to download them.

so i just became an ex photographer. and an ex musician, and an ex artist

i’ve discovered that I can’t even fix computers without my computer–all my utilities are on the computer. and things change so often, all those security updates and patchs i can’t download. It’s especially frustrating when the call is “i can’t get online with my computer.”

(yeah, i know just how you feel)

shit, i can’t even listen to the radio now–it was a USB device attached to my computer.

i could go on…

i just gave up trying to repair it. my torx bit screw driver just snapped in half. i’ve been at this a week, and i’m not going ot waste $4 in buss fare and another 8-10 dollars on another driver. the only thing i use torx drivers are for fixing computers.

i just wrapped the laptop up and am putting it in deep storage. eventually if i make enough money to get another torx driver i’ll recover the drive and try to save whats on it.

i’m debating weather or not to get a powered USB hub so i can charge the palm. realy doesn’t matter, i couldn’t get it to dial in to speakeasy, and the info i need to use it was on the computer. but it’s nice having it to play solitare on the el platform late at night.

so i’m now an ex geek.

dead laptop, dead blog?

Nothing kills blogs faster then a dead computer, and my beloved laptop died this morning. Ironically it died shortly after I sent a humerous email to ben making fun of all my equipment failings. In a broken record repeat of these entire years blog theme, look for fewer posts, and another complete stall in the rebuild of the site. I will try to get the palm working with the phone again, to post from it, but it’s been behaving increasingly erratic since Katherine threw it through Jerry’s mail slot. And things were just begining to look up…

(feel free to amuse yourselves in my absence.)

panasonic/leica lumix review

DCRP Review: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LC1. Review of the Panasonic badged version of their joint design with Leica. Looks and shoots better then it images? For the price you could get a decent digital SLR. Review of the Leica version which costs 300 bucks more.

CBLDF – Press Releases: New Censorship Bill Turns Parents into Prosecutors. H.B. 4239, also called the “Parents’ Empowerment Act,â€? would allow the parent or guardian of a minor to sue in federal court anyone who knowingly disseminates any media containing “material that is harmful to minorsâ€? if the material is distributed in a way that “a reasonable person can expect a substantial number of minors to be exposed to the material and the minor, as a result to exposure to the material, is likely to suffer personal or emotional injury or injury to mental or moral welfare.â€? The bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee.

(you might want to make a donation to the Comic Book legal Defense Fund after you read this, but it’s not just comics books at stake: science fiction and all the other genre fictions, and libraries too…there is no protection for libraries in the bill as it currently stands. this is truely evil)

death in the winter palace

my laptop is freezing up every ten or minutes. the keyboard, mouse and power button fail to respond. I really dislike power buttons that won’t turn off… so basically every ten minutes i have to unplug the battery and pull the plug on the power supply. Every other time i have to reset the power management unit by jamming a paperclip in the super secret button, because it won’t boot. this is really annoying, i’ve wasted a whole day on this and i had much more important things to do.

comments off? who knows?

We aren’t very happy with MovableType. Screw the pricing and licensing issues, screw the new features, screw the corrupted downloads, screw the name calling, and screw MovableType. This isn’t a Developers release, this is a beta, at best. The Admin interface is still lame, with the exception of the new comments page. The documentation is pathetic, crucial info is impossible find, and various links are circular. New features? they don’t work. I expect something less buggy for something that was months in the works and had a long beta, and there is no way i would pay for it. No Content Management System or Personal Publishing Platform or blogware should take this long to set up-although granted i haven’t been working on it full time due to pressing problems. I’m looking into other platforms, and other people have jumped ship as well.

UPDATE: Comments are back up, in the old anonymous system. Bulk comment deletion now works as well.

okay, comments are back on

just like it says. only i’ve turned on moderation which means all comments go to me, and i decide what gets posted. I am sick and tired of my back posts being used as keyword loading for google…this will of course lead to delays in posting, but it’s unavoidable. The new version of MovableType isn’t completely debugged, nor does it have a simple comment registration mechanism.

next on the list

Ooops, there goes the gallerys!
