Aggregate post

I apologize for this mish-mash post in advance, but i’ve way too busy foraging to survive, recover from a cold and flu and wallow in self loathing to post lately. Hence.

John Unger’s latest idea got picked up on a few blogs. Another one of his ideas has spawned it’s own blog and bizniz plan. (and gotten covered on Boingboing plus Sexblo.gs). The question I’m asking is what does one have to do with the other?

Here’s a former music writer turned musician flaking his new cd by giving away an MP3 from it. The song is about giving the song away for free. Clever and humorous pop rock in a Tod Rundren/Ben Folds Five sort of vein. now if only I could remember his name…

Ten minutes ago a guy roared past me on his Harly with the White Sox logo shaved into his chest hair. Not having a working camera sucks.

Richard Wilson is dead.

Around 10pm last night, Lainie Peterson asked me how Richard was doing. I told her what last I had heard, he was doing better, was expected to make it another year or so. Lainie knew Richard from his hanging around the Philosophy Club 15 years ago, in (i believe she said) Bloomington.

Richard Wilson died last night at 10pm.

Richard was many things in his life, from furniture salesman to yachtsman, with stops in between for designer, architect, teacher, and photographer. He was also a founding member of the Pilsen Photo Group. Nothing about him or his life was simple or easy.

He will be sorely missed.

disabled single mother countersues RIAA

Recording Industry vs The People reports:

This is the case peer-to-peer file sharers have been waiting for. Tanya Andersen, a 41 year old disabled single mother living in Oregon, has countersued the RIAA for Oregon RICO violations, fraud, invasion of privacy, abuse of process, electronic trespass, violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, negligent misrepresentation, the tort of “outrage”, and deceptive business practices. Ms. Andersen’s counterclaims demand a trial by jury.

22 years ago the world almost ended

Neil sent me this link to the chilling story of how Stanislav Petrov saved the world from nuclear war 22 years ago. Read the story and wonder what would have happened if it was an American in the same situation, or what would happen if the blips appeared today in either Russia or America.

art walk is over

I have declared today, Monday, October 3rd a vacation day. It’s “I had to cater and clean up after 5000 visitors day,” unless you happen to be Sunnyvale CA’s most recent residents, in which case it’s “We spent the whole week moving and all we got was 3 more bedrooms and a tub with jets* day.” (which is a left handed way of of saying happy Housewarming to Karey, Ben, and Tucker).

* it being california and all, a tub with jets may not be all that unusual. And I know at least one apartment/home in pilsen with one. but i still think they’re way cool.
