HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEN! This is going to be one of the last birthdays that you get, now that you have a kid, so enjoy it! It has truely been a pleasure knowing you!
So I came up with a fast brute force technique to generate the wishlist. I’ll get back to finding an elegent way to do this later. I’m actually redesigning the site offline, and will post it complete rather then nickel and diming the updated designs as I usually do. And I’ve got this other website to update (PPG). And as always, we thank you for your support (all 15 of you who read this). Your gifts help the homeless carry their crap around in a manner that looks better than shopping bags (and draws less heat than them too).
In this kind of weather there isn’t much to do but try and find warm places to stay and try not to look like too much of a bag person. I have gathered all the pieces together and will finish assembling and loading the MOLLE 2 pack tonight (and no, I still don’t have all the pieces I need for it [let alone want]: I’m still looking for a sustainment pouch and the internal radio pouch to hold the new jury rigged heavy insulated laptop sleeve, and I’m still dithering getting the waist pack or just start savinf for the Mountain ruck for the frame). Eventually there’s going to be an essay about 3 day back packs, and the MOLLE 2, but that’s for later. Right now I have to find my spare battery, and a safe warm place for all my 2.5″ drives.
Blogs that are never updated (like this one).
Single digit subzero weather with negative windchill.
Shoveling snow.
The only one i could change was the blog. So I posted. Surprised at the lack of response over the new design. More work as time, power, and calories allow.
Nothing like a new suit of clothes to make a person feel better then they have any right to be. In the case of the blog, I dressed it up real nice in a new layout and theme. And in typical FFEJWORLD fashion it is still glitching from the last theme i installed. And I got the impacted shit pile (the blog, not the hosting computer) a new pacemaker: WordPress 2.1.
Preliminary review of 2.1: nice. Very, very, nice. Watch out John, this CMS rocks, and it’s upgradeable by DIAL-UP! OK, I do not recommend upgrading your bloging back end via a dial in, but what the fuck, ya gotta use the tools ya got at hand.
I’m going to go kick the tires and poke around under the hood for a bit and see what this baby can do.
i really should clean this mess up. it’s time for either a new layout or new blogging backend…
Just in case you missed the last weeks weather in the midwest.
Just saying “sub-zero” or “windchill of -13″ does nothing to describe sleeping in a buss shelter. or an elevated train station. I noticed last week (when things were milder!?) teh TV news urging homeless people to check out the freshly opened heating centers–just go look them up on line, or call 311. From our nonexhistant payphones? From all the free internet access bums have? Wish i could remember the channel, they deserve a little protest. In the meantime i’m going to search out a list of warming centers other then the tollway oasis–yes they really are warming centers, and 99% of the people who need warming centers can’t get there.
