Kim Assaley, noted Lampreyite and Pilsen luminary was hit by a truck while riding her bicycle last Tuesday. Her heel and the pavement got way too intimate. She’s been in the hospital since, and for those of you in the know about modern medicine where back surgery is performed as an out patient procedure, this is not good at all. Not ot mention when she checks out on Monday, she’ll be unable to walk or work. So I’m laying the groundwork here for a fundraiser. Kim’s gonna need rent and food, and there will be a fundraiser, your donations will be needed, both cash and silent auction. Here’s your chance to do something good for someone else. We’ll have more information as it’s available.
After months of having a half dead laptop, I finally isolated the problem, after a sleepless night of assembling and disassembling and testing it. Which is great, if I had the money to fix it for real. for now I have another shim in place, and I can actually boot the machine. And if I pinch the case just right, I can get net.
Happiness is a shorting Airport Extreme card…
News for Nerds, Stuff that matters. Our uptime is your downtime. The pioneering tech/poly/sci news site, pride of Michigan, and ongoing social software experiment is ten. Happy Birthday! Here’s an interview with Rob Malda, the founder.
It helps that she and her husband are retired Airforce officers, but this woman smashed up up the Comcast office for lieing to her and not hooking up her phone. I realize we all wish we could do it. But it’s the wrong target, COMCAST employees on the bottom aren’t the real problem. Hell, most “comcast” employees are actually subcontractors. It’s the snickering millionaire scum on the top who are the real problem. We’re not advocating you send the CEO dead fish or gophers, nor are we suggesting you do a fandango on him or his phone with a hammer. But here’s where his office is.
We’ve moved from the congestions and rattling headcold to the coughing up chunks portion of the event. Joy.
Plus, my beloved brother is in town. So sorry for being offline so much.
I understand this person’s dilemma, we just may have different criteria. I love pens. I’ve been testing and playing with pens for over 30 years (it’s actually way over 30 years, I just had independent confirmation of this and I was shocked). I’ve had my favorite pens dissapear off the market, had them mutate into blotchy or scratchy messes, and lusted after pens that I’ll never be able to afford. And I know that humans are only chauffeurs for pens–each human only moves a pen partway to their final destination. If I could draw or if I had decent penmanship it would make sense. But it’s love, and love is irrational. Which is why as hard up as I am, I have a an unopened pack of Pilot Gels in my bag.
Ok, now Hizzoner wants 200+ million in tax increases. If he gets to privatize the parking meters, that’s another 7% increase a year in meter feas.
Who knows what the state wants, or what the CTA bailout eventually costs (but remember, this time we really mean it! Hizzoner but his BEST MAN on the job!).
Stroger (the man who will make the county republican) was already said what he wants:
- 12 cent PER GALLON increase in the gas tax
- 2.8% increase in property tax
- $40 increase a year in parking tax
- sales tax increase from .75% to 2.75%
Now throw in the CTA fare increases of .50 to $1 a ride (depending on time of day and method of payment, boy, I can’t wait for the slow downs from this one–I’m still seeing people argue with drivers about how they’re supposed to get a transfer for paying with cash!), and feel the economic love, feel that miracle economy! MMMM YEAH!
Recession my ass…
Amidst massive and well deserved bad blood over bricking iPhones that had been unlocked, Apple has anounced that they’ll finally ship an iPhone SDK in February. So we have to wait 4 months for the kit, then a little more for the “legal” third party apps to roll out. And no word on what restrictions they’ll put on apps or the kit–it could be you can’t touch the hardware, which would make the amazing Delicious Library mobile version an impossibility. So 4+ months before I find out if my next computer fits in my hand or in a wheelbarrow…
Because Leapard ships Oct. 26th. Right on time, 2 years late! And that’s when lots of unemployed geeks like me and Hairball find out if our hardware can really run the new operating system, or whether we’re moving back to linux.
