I’m not holding out hope for this fucking year.

Politically it feels like a novel where the super villain has teh moves and countermoves plotted out years in advance. Every move skillfully locks together into an amazing wepon pointed straight at Democracy and the Middle Class and we’re the young hero who only know realizes that the villain is real and not J. Random Loonie. It really feels like any response I could post here is already neutralized and countered, or a needed piece of their plot. The way they played Obama like a violin…

Oh to go back in time and prevent Murdoch’s special dispensation, or to crush Greenspan’s and Scalia’s testicles.

Sigh.

Maybe I’ll make it to 2011. Maybe you’ll make it too. Maybe the 25% permanent unemployment and work houses won’t happen. Maybe.

Here I am geeking away on an nerdy combo backpack organization/wishlist article, and I get a Tweet:

I just hit your blog and you are a hot mess of hilariousness (I know it’s not a real word).

Wow. I’m stunned. I quickly went and checked to see if ffej.org was rerouting to The Onion or The Realist Archive. Nope. Same poorly maintained ADD/HD effluvium as always. Pictures still crooked on the walls, cruft in the code and dust bunnies everywhere. Yet Katie Schwartz, who authored said Tweet is A Real Writer, and quite funny. Ordinarily I’d fire off one of my patented “You’re out of your fucking mind, please seek professional care immediately, but thank you” letters, but I accidentally hit send after spending 20 minutes trying to spell thank you (my Twitter client of choice is Twhirl, it’s only real failing is it doesn’t spell check-but you can change fonts and font size, use multiple accounts, search, and so much more).

I’m fairly certain the last time I was funny was sometime betwixt 91 and 93. Last time I was hot was that ear infection with 103 degree fever last winter. Messy, now messy I can understand. Messy, I can get my teeth into messy…

UPDATED: The Gang never went away, it now has a daily version, NewsGang Live, where norms and civilians can call in and listen or comment live,  in addition to the weekly Gang roundtable. You can now get the podcasts feed here and the new NewsGang news aggregator which will work on iPhone or other mobile browsers. I still think Jason’s behavior was craptacular.

So I just watched the Gillmor Gang’s current version, The Gang, self destruct. I think. What I actually saw was a series of Twits by Jason Calacanis.
